From Chuck Peters on Twitter:
“Review of efforts, and business models, for hyperlocal news http://bit.ly/Cq6v “
After reading the article attached to Chuck’s tweet, I dug into how Outside. In engages bloggers. This is something that we need to do better. We often talk about providing the tools and the channels for community to engage through GazetteOnline.com , Iowa.com, and HooplaNow.com… Outside. In has figured out a model. Here’s their outreach to bloggers.
Think about blending the blog outreach model of Outide. In with the social engagement features of NewsMixer… What do you think?
Outside.in partnered with the Washington Post within the last year to create a map at washingtonpost.com that aggregates both community blogs, staff blogs and staff written stories, videos, photos, etc… Check it out at http://projects.washingtonpost.com/local-blog-directory/buzzmap/
I love the name. Buzz maps. Very cool.
So, should we register and “Geo code” our products for further distribution? If so, which ones?
Hmmmm looks very similar to the presentation this week. I can really envision the combination of this with the efforts of the Medill students. Maybe the name we’re working on should give that consideration…
