•There has been a great deal of change in the way the U.S. economy’s sectors are aligned. We were once farmers, later producers of physical goods. Now we are becoming predominantly a services society…
•The Services Producing sector has become by far the most dominant employer of people.
I think we’ll see a lot more growth in the service sector, particularly with at-home businesses. As companies cut costs, lay off employees and outsource their needs, I think we’ll see more people using their home computers to provide business or other services.
One of the topics that I’ve been discussing with our CorridorCareers partners focuses on contract workers. That is, as employers how do we find and make efficient use of workers on a contract basis. And, for jobseekers, how do we help those who are looking for contract work. It’s the concept that called Gigs Wanted on Craigslist.
This is an important trend. Contractors and freelancers. What brands can support the needs here? Edge? Corridor Careers? Hoopla? GO? Iowa.com?
Here’s an article about displaced, over-qualified executives.
